Zoning has been causing a housing shortage for decades

I've seen municipalities fight density and urban clusters for more than a quarter of a decade. The big problem is that politicians are often making decisions based on pretty much zero knowledge of planning principles.
 
The very purpose of zoning is to limit size of a structure, lot coverage and use within a specific district. When you limit things then you naturally exclude others. It is what it is
 
I live in a neighborhood that suits me. 10K lots and 3k+ houses. We do that, not by accident, not by force but by desire. Socialists want to change up the choices.
