Travel Distance for High Piled Storage

Quick question, I think I know the answer but really am having a brain malfunction on this one - Travel distance in a S-1 or F-1 is limited to 250 feet if the eave height of storage is over 24 feet in height.
Nothing in the IFC Chapter 32 for high piled storage overrides the travel distance requirements in Chapter 10 of the IBC.

Are there any exceptions in other codes or standards that modify this?

No other codes or standards that I know of; and even if there were, the IBC governs as stated in Section 102.4.1. A jurisdiction could adopt another code or ordinance that is not referenced by the IBC. In that case, the most restrictive requirement would likely apply.

Thanks RLGA... Working on a project that was permitted and constructed in 2006. The fire marshal came in and wants an evacuation plan as per IFC requirements for High Piled Storage --- Finding many egress issues in original design and currently operating as we speak.

Plus with high piled should have the access doors every 100 linear feet, in the high piled area.

I agree with you CDA -- however, the IFC regulates processes within a building..... and that can lead to big problems if ignored.

IBC Section 413, Combustible Storage, sends you directly to the IFC... Kind of hard to miss it unless you don't look in Chapter 4...

I honestly believe this should be reinstated in occupancy classification as well for S-1 and S-2 Occupancies. Most designers and code people would see it there instead of hidden in the back section of chapter 4.

Are you enforcing the Code, or just the parts you like?
It's not 'hidden' anywhere, it's right there in a chapter specifically designed to address occupancies with particularly complex concerns.
Since there's an entire chapter in the IFC, a simple cross reference is mostly what is needed.
