Interior stairs and exterior door landing proximity

Hey, I'm just trying to make sure I'm not missing something in the code before I finalize my stair layout. I'm finishing a basement and the current steps aren't to code, in order to get them to code I'm having to put a winding in. This winding causes the top of the stairs end at the front door. Is there any problem with the stairs sharing the landing of the front door? According to the exeception of R311.7.6, a landing isn't required at the top of interior stairs if a door doesn't swing over the stairs. I take that to mean this layout is fine, but considering the proximity of the stairs to the door I wanted to double check it isn't violating another code I'm missing.

I would accept this all day long, as long as the winder treads have a depth not less than 6" at any point and are at least 10" deep at the walk line, per R311.7.5.2.1.

If you have that covered, I don't see any issues.

You are fine as far as landings and relation with the door.

If you could move the door swing to the other side, it would be the best, a door may go beyond 90° causing a possible "door knocking someone down the stairs when opened issue"

A plan reviewer may have to accept this if the door does not extend over the stairs.

@Beniah Naylor Thanks. Yeah the winder treads meet that code. If the winding depth at walk line is >10 inches does it require nosing?

@Pcinspector1 Yeah I was going back and forth on door swing. My thought having it swing the way it does is to prevent a fall hazard when walking in the door.

If the tread depth is not less than 11 inches, you do not need a nosing per the exception for R311.7.5.3. I personally as an inspector would measure that 11" at the walkline.

Otherwise, you need a nosing projection at least 3/4".

Agreed, but it's the best design that doesn't require major changes to the upstairs floorplan.
