The Making of Deep Concrete Pilings

I put this together today just in-case anyone wants to see how relatively deep concrete pilings are made. It is vertical video as a Youtube short so seen best on your mobile phone.

 
Do they intentionally leave to concrete down a couple of inches so the grade beam will key to it?

Yes, that's what's normally done. The process gets really complicated when you are in a wet area and you have to put the concrete to the bottom of the Pier to force the water out. The one shown in this video is a relatively simple and small one!
 
I just saw something like this for the first time, done in a location where water was an issue. They plumbed a 2 in pvc pipe in with the rebar so they could de-water the hole right before concrete started coming in.
 
I experienced a project that had caissons that were really deep. There was 8' of water. They opted to use a pump. The soil collapsed and a bulb was formed.
