I see it there in the 2023 FBC specifically in R1, but NFPA 101 includes R2
NFPA 101 CHAPTER 30 New Apartment Buildings
30.1 General Requirements.
30.2.10 Marking of Means of Egress.
Means of egress shall have signs in accordance with Section 7.10 in all buildings requiring more than one exit.
7.10.1.6* Floor Proximity Exit Signs.
