Door handle vs transfer shower clearance?

I've drawn on top of the model code illustration to show how I'm trying to retrofit a residential bathroom for 11B/ADA mobility accessibility.
One potential concern: when the bathroom door is closed, its handle will protrude into the maneuvering space for the transfer into the shower. Is that acceptable?

I am inclined to think not. In order to effect a transfer to the shower seat, the wheelchair will most likely be parked parallel to the open side of the shower with the back of the wheelchair toward the door and the occupant's feet to the right in the plan. I expect that the door handle will be an obstruction to positioning the wheelchair for making the transfer.

That makes sense. Thanks!
