Business Occupancy w/ Assembly Space Handrails

What about 1029.15.1 "discontinuous handrails" "Where there is seating on both sides of the aisle, the mid-aisle handrails shall be discontinuous with gaps or breaks at intervals not exceeding five rows.... If I only have 5 tiers and I elect to use a mid handrail, could this be interpreted to...

Missed your post regarding images. First time posting images..... Selected the "image Icon" and copied link from webpage. Any suggestions as to what to do?

Business Occupancy w/ Assembly Space Handrails

Wondering about 1011.11 "handrails". While doesn't specify aisles, in exception 2 it indicates that changes of 1 level only don't need handrails for walkways. This would only help for one tier where have a 5" change in elevation (not 2 steps). however. Looking for way to eliminate for 2 steps.

Business Occupancy w/ Assembly Space Handrails

Getting close to where I need to be. After looking around on line I'm seeing lot's of similar conditions that they have been able to eliminate handrails. I'm not finding anything in the code that would allow for this. Best I've been able to come up with is only requiring handrails on one side of...

Business Occupancy w/ Assembly Space Handrails

2015 IBC. In a Higher Ed (College) Business Occupancy a couple of classrooms have tiered seating. Classroom is designated assembly because 50+ occupants. Wondering if there are any special code allowances related to the following for this type of space & if so, where do I find the exceptions 1...

    Comcheck IECC & ASHRAE 2007

Entering data into comcheck for a Medical Office Building. For fenestration components when I select "assembly" and "metal frame with thermal break" I'm given various performance data options to select from. One of the options is "Product performance evaluated in accordance with NFRC". When I...

ASHRAE 90.1-2007 Section 11.... "Energy Cost Method"?

Looking to use ASHRAE 90.1 IECC compliance path to bypass requirement of airside economizers per ME request. I believe that what I need to be looking into to use the ASHRAE 90.1-2007 compliance path that will ultimately get our engineer away from the airside economizer is near the back of 90.1...

    IECC compliance paths

Zone 3. Can't speak to simple vs complex HVAC systems. Any understanding about how ASHRAE 90.1-2007 Chapter 11 factors in to all of this. I think this is a separate topic so going to post as such....

    IECC 2009 Tables 502.1.2 & 502.2(1)

OK Thanks. So MUST take ASSEMBLY into consideration for table 502.1.2. Therefor steel studs have large impact on design decisions..... thus what appears to be allowing for a lower R value is somewhat deceiving. Did some math yesterday and turns out that to comply with table 502.1.2 u factor of...

    IECC 2009 Tables 502.1.2 & 502.2(1)

Am I correct in that the values for individual building envelope opaque components can be substituted as suits between tables 502.1.2 & 502.2(1)? If so, am I also understanding correctly that I can elect by using table 502.1.2 not to use continuous insulation for metal framed stud walls? If...

    IECC compliance paths

Thanks Ron. I appreciate this info as it will definitely be helpful going forward but I should have clarified that for this project I'm working with 2009 IECC and ASHRAE 90.1- 2007. Here's where I am with this..... I have been approached by our mechanical engineer that we should consider...

    IECC compliance paths

Are there in reality 3 different compliance paths to meet IECC requirements? 1. Prescriptive method 2. Total building performance method. Meet minimum "prescriptive" requirements for each component then demonstrate compliance through energy model. Would comcheck generally be accepted as...

    Deadlatch Paddle Panic Device

Doors with electric strikes (Access Control Keypads require) apparently can't use standard rim type panic bars.... at least with the type of electric strike being provided. I'm not familiar with the deadlatch paddles as they relate to building code & NFPA requirements. Can these be used as...

NFPA 285 Wall assemblies & continuous rigid insulation

Thanks! Answered all my questions. Building is one story and sprinklered so looks like thermax is not necessary.

NFPA 285 Wall assemblies & continuous rigid insulation

Can someone help me get my head wrapped around how NFPA 285 relates to rigid insulation and the relative location of gypsum based sheathing? Wondering if the gypsum based sheathing could potentially be placed on either side of the insulation (against stud side or at exterior face) and still pass...

Aluminum Storefront SHGC & U Value

Steel is used to support structure above but it was chosen as a function to integrate with the storefront..... could have been framed with wood. The vast majority of the building is wood frame construction. ALL of the steel frame is infilled with storefront. Storefront rests on steel tube beams...

Aluminum Storefront SHGC & U Value

OK. Understood and thanks! So when we're talking storefront and I have U values for both the framing and the glazing, which value do I choose? Also, regarding the fact that the storefront will be installed in a steel frame used to support the storefront, would you say that this could be...
