    Elevator requirement in IBC

Last time I checked, the ADA was created prior to the IBC code. Seems like ICC needs to better coordinate this aspect.

Reasons Why Building Permit Application Packages are Rejected by Permit Technicians

#1 reason? People are simply so lazy these days they can't be bothered to fill out a simple application correctly and fully and read on the handouts located on the website or at the front counter (hard copy) of supporting information required for each specific project.

    Counterfeit Codes

Mine are real 2021 1st editions. I had to download all the errata and then go through the code books to add or correct the massive amount of inaccuracies. They would have to be real with that much red marks in them now.

Shouldn't my architect know the building use codes and not need to call zoning?

Not sure why you feel the need to leave. You have gotten a lot of good information, it's just not the information you wanted to hear. Your real question isn't shouldn't the architect know uses or zoning information. Your question is why do you need to pay him $2000 when you did all the...

Shouldn't my architect know the building use codes and not need to call zoning?

And in there lies the crux of the issue. While I can understand that jlfitz69 has done some leg work, he is not a required licensed design professional. For whatever reason, these days people think they can do their homework and simply ask another to execute it for them. I can tell my doctor...

    converting shipping containers to housing.

It's in the 2021 building code. I have amended out that entire section and the reference within the residential code. Not permitted within this municipality. But good luck.

    2021 IRC Insulation requirements

Climate zone 5 - Its required either R-20 + 5ci or R-13 + 10ci. How else am I supposed to deal with that? They can certainly provide compliance through section 406.

Empowering Building Officials: Clarifying the Authority to Adopt Policies and Procedures

It depends, doesn't it? The BO would need more information on this garage and what it is used for and what is stored inside of it.

    How do you handle resubmittals?

I want to be honest here, and also I am not trying to be insulting to those who are somehow hamstrung by their states, but if you don't have any authority, what makes you a building official? You can't interpret anything. You can't amend anything. You can't control anything. You can't allow...

    How do you handle resubmittals?

Section 104.1 (2021 IRC) The building official is hereby authorized and directed to enforce the provisions of this code. The building official shall have the authority to render interpretations of this code and to adopt policies and procedures in order to clarify the application of its...

    How do you handle resubmittals?

Like I said, you probably need a better process in place.

    How do you handle resubmittals?

So, all revisions, usually based on a previous plan review comment, should have come with a letter from the design professional. That should be standard practice. Any changes that were submitted on their part (like adding a second kitchen or twelve more stories) should also be accompanied by a...

    How do you handle resubmittals?

You should not be disassembling a licensed design professionals set of drawings. Period. That can probably lead to legal issues. If you are still doing paper, make them either resubmit the entire set or the design professional or their representative can come into the office and disassemble...

    I would agree with that.

Another Failed Inspection Passed by Inspector

Not sure I see a problem. Three or four nails seem pretty strong. Ehh,...... I would guess at four since its attached to the I-joist at top and bottom. Yup. Four is the right way to go.

    The Pitfalls of Multi-Discipline Inspectors

Hey, you are preaching to the choir on this one. Unfortunately, some jurisdictions are smaller than others. These smaller jurisdictions do not have the resources to hire more than one inspector. And he/she is required to do zoning, MEP, structural, accessibility and on and on. Remember, not...

    2021 IRC 506.2.3

I did see this since I am currently going through it to make amendments. So, once we adopt the 2021 within my jurisdiction sometime in summer/fall, yes we would be enforcing it.

    ^&$((&*^% Idjits!

Every moment in this industry is a teachable moment. If you can't hear the name and phone number, ignore it and wait for a call back. Then you have an opportunity to explain to the caller that leaving a message with a mouth full of goo-food will never produce positive results.

A History of Code Compliance Abuse : Case in Point - Riverwalk Saloon, Lehighton, PA

I will just say this. One of the reasons that I left my previous office was because I was asked, after I did a plan review, if we sent it out to a third party and they were ok with it, would I be ok with that? I said no and they did not pursue the matter with the third-party plan review...

Why Contractors Avoid Pulling Building Permits: Uncovering the Truth

I looked at our permits the other day. We had almost 900 permits for the year. I also had over 120 stop work orders and of those close to 90 required and led to a permit. So we are at about 10% and that is only what we catch which means you can probably double this number. JMHO.
