That is exactly why we are still under the 2006 IRC and 2009 on all the rest
Senate Stops Veto Override
Governor Pledges To Stop Sprinkler Rule
Now that the Montana Legislature has finished their work and left town, I want to take a moment and thank you for all of the calls, emails and conversations that were made on MBIA's legislative priorities, especially HB 307, our attempt to prohibit mandatory fire sprinklers.
In the end, the bill was lost on our attempt to override the Governor's veto. Over the last 25 years only one veto has been overridden, but we were mere minutes away from succeeding. Our effort was, by far, the closest attempt during the Schweitzer administration.
Though the veto was not successful, our efforts were not fruitless. During the final minutes before the vote, it appeared as if we would be successful. This caused the Governor to send the Democrat members of the Senate a hand written note promising to stop the adoption of mandatory fire sprinklers through administrative rule, if the veto was sustained. This note changed the outcome of the vote. But the bottom line is that the Governor has given his word that fire sprinklers will not be mandated while he is in office.
Ultimately, we fell short of an outright ban, but achieved a two year reprieve from the fire sprinkler debate.
