2007 Ashrae 90.1 vestibule

I do not have this standard. Is there verbage in here that allows a 9,000 sq. ft., M use, remodel tenant space (7,500 sq. ft. sales area) in a 60,000 sq. ft. shopping center to not be required to have a vestibule? There are just a set of double doors leading out the front facade.

Notes on the plans indicate 2006 IECC/2003 IECC reference to ASHRAE 90.1 as alternative method of compliance to 2001 and 2004 ASHRAE. Of course we are on 2009 IECC and I believe you have to use the latest ASHRAE. Is that not correct?

The big difference I beleive is the allowance of tradeoffas per ASHRAE.......The deigner of record must provide the complete documentation for ASHRAE in order for it to be accepted.

I have a copy of 2007 ASHRAE 90.1. There are some exceptions for the vestibule requirement, but I'm not sure your project meets any of them. What climate zone are you in?

I'm in climate zone 5.

90.1 allows for an exception in climate zones 1 and 2 and others based on size. If you use a revolving door, a vestibule is not required. I can get you the specific language if you'd like. PM me and I can send you a pdf of the section.

Section 5.4.3.4 of the 2007 ASHRAE requires the vestibule.....Sorry, this is a

"new" mandatory requirement for the 2007 edition.....There are some

exceptions, but I; like Codegeek, do not believe that you meet any of them.

FWIW, the language and exceptions are almost identical in the 2009 IECC.

Thanks for all the posts. I have made a review comment that he is to comply with either the 2009 IECC or 2007 Ashrae 90.1 and provide a copy of the vestibule requirement from this standard for any exception for a vestibule. But it doesn't look good for him on this.

2007 90.1 removed the exception that they always liked to use...have had 4 projects so far have to reinstall the vestibule because someone in the office gave demo permits before plan submittal OTC without asking questions.
