35KW natural gas backup/standby generator indoors

I have never seen one of these located inside a building. Usually they put them outside the building and add high cmu walls, a double steel door and leave it open to the sky. But we have a commercial unit, type 2b, fully sprinkled, that wants it inside the warehouse area on an exterior corner. It just seems odd and something feels not right. Of course it didn't exactly come with all the pertinent information and details so we are left to ask all the questions. Any thoughts? This will be plan reviewed not only by me but our mechanical inspector and fire inspector.

I seem to recall some years ago seeing large gen sets inside of one or more hospitals in Houston med center. Of course they would be a lot larger than 35 KW. What is the usage of the building?

Just finished one in a Water Treatment Plant. They wanted indoors because the plant is in the vicinity of a residential area.

Emergency? Legally required standby? Or optional? Like everyone else said, it is doable but the details are important. Also look for manufacturers install instructions...

Well, it is for a medical drug (sort of) dispensing facility. The M use is separated from the back warehouse area. The total space is maybe 2500 sq. ft. with 1000 being the warehouse. The existing partition wall is probably a rated wall as it was built under BOCA. I think they want the genset indoors for more protection against would be thiefs trying to thwort all the security measures already in place.

So 1000 sq. ft. room with a man door and garage door. Type 2b masonry wall construction, typical exposed bar joist metal deck roof.
