4 Story I-1...Generator?

Recently a LFO asked me if a 4-story I-1 would be required to have an emergency generator. I looked and can't seem to find anything requiring the generator. Any suggestions would be most helpful. Thank you.

Usually set by the local licensing folks...For "healthcare"....If applicable.

The code seldom says that a generator is required. However, it is difficult to meet emergency lighting, emergency elevator operation, and similar requirements without a generator. As a practical matter, you would want your IT systems, refrigerators, etc. to continue operating during a power outage.

Is the elevator in the I-1 building designated for Fire Service
[ RE: `15 IBC, Section 3007 ] ?......Also in the `15 IBC, refer
to Section 403.4.8 - Standby and Emergency Power.

Stand by and/or emergency power requirements would not automatically require a generator. Battery systems would generally provide the power needed for emergency lighting, etc.
For a longer outage in a facility that needs or wants to remain operational a generator may become an important part of the package.
