    There was a very good obituary in The Economist, The economist requires a subscription now (very expansive) so I will print it all without linking.


    The lessons from the Mann Gulch Fire:

    Note the highlighted lesson about fuel in a "recently designated a wildlife area", they were rare in 1949, but are all over the place now, firefighters should be fighting to clean out these "designated wildlife areas", the environmental wackos are covering the country with them, they are banning cattle around here traditionally used to keep the grasses down, they fear people using their "parks" will step in the cow patties.
