2009 IBC 1110.2 requires directional signs in an accessible space indicating directions to the closest accessible exit at non accessible exits. Employee work areas only need a way in and out per 1103.2.3

A very large building that is all employee work area with 50 exit doors but only two are accessible. Is the whole building considered an accessible space and does 48 doors need to have a directional sign?

OK no help with this so I will assume that all 48 doors will need directional signs.

The problem is what shall they say. This million sq ft building is shaped like an E and has about a thousand miles of conveyors. A simple sign with an arrow won't work .The directional signs would have to spell out complicated accessible routes as long as 1,500 ft with 15 turns is some cases and every directional sign at all 48 non accessible doors would have to be different. I don't know how the directions should read. I don't think giving compass directions would work.

I don't think just labeling the two accessible doors A and B and then just have the directional sign say " Accessible exit at door A or B" would work.

I suggested a red line painted on the floor and have all the signs just say "follow red line to accessible exit" but the owner doesn't want the painted lines on the floor.

If the signs say " follow signs with red arrows" they would need hundreds of them.

Has anyone have any simple idea for these directional signs?
