I am working on a pre-manufactured metal building, 8" horizontal girts support insulated metal panel exterior walls. Exterior doors with closer and latch are mounted in the insulated metal panel, which is necessary to maintain the integrity of the envelope. In order to meet FDA requirements, we need to skin the interior of the girts to create a smooth, washable surface. The difficulty is that any skin that we put on the interior of the girts (currently 5/8" gyp and FRP) pushes the face of the wall >8" from the face of the door, so they do not meet the clearance requirements of ANSI Fig. 404.2.3.5 (c). Pulling the girts away from the door frame is not feasible since they are supporting the panels.
