Two months after I was hired; I was informed that I was also the stormwater inspector; as if I didn't have enough stuff I have a little knowledge of to do. The last two months we've had floods on weekly basis; which is interfering with my "real" job; and I'm run ragged trying to tell homeowners (in a politically correct manor) that the culverts (tinhorns) are their responsibility to clean out and maintain; and also the ditch in the front of their property. I'm a pretty good building, electrical, mechanical, and plumbing inspector; but political correctness in not my long suit (strongest asset). Crap, it's not even in my asset category; lol, as if I have to tell you guys. I've accomplished a lot over the last year; bringing the local construction up to code; and, am going be real upset if I lose this job over some flooding. Uncle Bob

Just think of the ditches as another form of plumbing subject to the same clog issues as pipes

As an old old plumber flooding should not be a new experience. As far as politically correct I suggest Politically Correct for dummy's.

Well, that sucks, UB.. on the upside, you can end up the City's hero .. tell your boss, he needs to buy 1000 shovels for you to give to the homeowners.. you can give a man a fish, and he has a meal today.. teach a man to fish.. well, you get the idea.

Nothing brings stress to a job like a flood. I know first hand and so does RJJ who actually came up my way to help out during our major flood. It sucks and there is enough to do just building code wise alone. I feel your pain UB.

My sympathies. I understand how "extra duties" pop up. I wound up assistant planner and my former boss, the director of public works, just got handed planning director. Argh......good luck.

I feel your pain. I was told after hire that oh did we mention that you are also the fire marshal, floodplain administrator,city ada coordinator,culvert cleaner, and window washer. You are lucky that you were not appointed the floodplain administrator. That poor guy must be getting very little sleep lately.
