Most of the forums I'm a member of have some policy regarding blatantly advertising the posters' products in threads, signatures etc.

Since general concensus has been to keep banners off the site, perhaps there should be some guidelines to keep advertising by users in check.

Not to say I am against somebody identifying themselves and their business in their sig (in fact, that is probably great motivation for some people to contribute), but I think that a line should be drawn in the sand someplace before it gets crazy.

Or not... just a suggestion :)

Advertising in threads is not allowed and we have already banned about a dozen spammers who have done this. Some walk a thin line because they post replies relevant to the subject then provide a link that is somewhat relevant to the topic. It is a judgement call but the moderators are suppose to report spam along with every single person here. At the bottom of every post from people is a small triangle that is there to report a post.

Is there a problem if I put "Tor-Eggs, the Miracle Building System" in my sig.?

Texasbo - I really think you should contact Randy, partner up, and get those strap-nets on the market! I'll be waiting to hear of your IPO in the near future...

I don't have an issue with links in signatures.

I do have an issue with links in signatures if the post is not relevant and the real intent is to show the link. Spammers are good for that where they post replies that make no sense or are direct advertising.

Are you an engineer that can verify the miracle that I have invented? For free?

Is there someplace that has the rules? Maybe when you sign up? Might be good to put a sticky somewhere..
