Allowable Area Increases allowed in Mixed Occupancy ??

I have a question concerning Mixed Use Occupancy. Calculating Mixed Use Allowable area with the sum of the occupancy ratios with respect to allowable area for each yeilds a "go or no go" answer by being >=1 or <1. Can area increases for frontage or sprinkler systems be applied in this situation, and if so... HOW? I was thinking about using the area increase for frontage on the most restrictive code to achieve a new allowable area, but then is THAT the total allowable area?

I hope that makes sense... it does in my head.

The ratio method is used only when considering separated occupancies. The allowable area is determined for each occupancy group, including all applicable increases. Then, the ratio of actual area in the building to allowable area previously calculated (with increases) is determined for each occupancy group. The sum of all ratios on a story cannot exceed 1, and the sum of all ratios in a building cannot exceed 2 for two-story buildings or 3 for buildings with three or more stories.

If the nonseparated method is used, then the allowable area (including any applicable increases) is based on the occupancy or occupancies that is/are the most restrictive for height an area. If one occupancy is the most restrictive for area, but another is most restrictive for height, then the two occupancies will be considered the most restrictive.
 
RLGA, you rock! That's 2 for 2! I was hoping that would be the case! Is there anywhere in the code that clearly states that? I may have to make my case!
