ANSI A117.1 1998:

1002.3.2 Wheelchair Turning Space. All spaces shall provide a wheelchair turning space complying with Section 304.

304.3.1 Circular Space. The wheelchair turning space shall be not less than 60 inches (1525 mm) diameter minimum. Wheelchair turning space shall be permitted to include knee and toe clearance complying with Section 306.

Does that mean that I can include an upper shelve & rod inside the turning space? They will be high enough to clear the knee and toe clearance

thanks!

Yes and no, care should be taken to ensure the space is clear of any obstructions, WHAT IS HANGING ON THE ROD?

If long dresses, pants or long coats are on the "rod", and they are in the "space" IMHO no.

Thanks for the quick feed back... I'm not specing which dress are going to be hang... just the rod and an upper shelve! :o

Anyway, I just finished re-configuring the W.I.C. with a T shape turning space.

There will be some 12" deep shelves that will be above of the turning space ( I'm going to spec the appropriate Knee and toe clearance for those shelves). No hanging dresses.
