Hello!

We’re in Raleigh, NC and expanding an event space.

Where can I find the code for running speaker wire and cat 6? It’s a type 2B building and open ceiling 17’ to deck.

Many thanks!
David

Oh, my bad, yes exposed to metal beams and all the way to deck.

This is a snippet showing the poor job the hvac contractor did running thermostat wire! Hope it plays ok. Ceiling is about to be painted black.

Don't be insulted - this is a 101 fast overview. While I work on a lot of projects where all a/v working except 120 v is in conduit for protección and future changes, most is not required to be. Unless through a plenum, most a/v wire is fine. A plenum is an enclosed uninhabitable space used for air distribution. Most typical a space above a hung ceiling i'm some buildings. Through a plenum you need plenum rated cable - less flamable jacket.

Last - support it well but don't support it from sprinkler system. I see ir supported from other conduit but that to may be prohibited - I don't know.

No offense here, I appreciate the response.

I was under the impression that we didn’t need anything plenum-rated until electricians said they needed to use it for low voltage wire for lights with 0-10V dimmers. Figured I’d verify here!

I’ll try and find out why they said that.

But you asked about speaker wire and CAT6 data cable ...
