B1 Exam Help

Good Evening,

I wanted to inquire about the B1 ICC exam (2018 edition)?

What are some good study products for somebody with minimal knowledge of construction and building plans?

Are there any good study guides or online classes that walk you through every aspect of the content of the IRC for people with minimal knowledge of the content?

Is the 2018 IRC the only book that is required for the exam?

Some background on me: I am a Code Compliance Officer, I have three ICC certifications (Housing/Property Maint, Zoning Inspector, and Certified Code Enforcement Officer). I studied for those tests pretty extensively, and I am a pretty good test taker, but I am aware that those exams are drastically simpler than the B series (Though the Property Maintenance Exam did feature some sections from the IRC). Before this job, I have had no experience in this field at all.

I am looking to get the B1 (and eventually B2) certifications to allow the potential for more oppurtunies for advancement.

So I suppose my question is, what is the best way to study for the 2018 B1 exam with minimal experience? (Such as any good online training programs, or study guides?).

Thank You!

Here are some links to get you started. The list of study books is in there somewhere. Should also check your state requirements. Here if you don't have any field experience it is very hard to qualify to take the state exam and without it you can't inspect anywhere in the state.

I live in GA. Is there a state exam here?

All building inspectors I spoke to who work for my city said they never heard of one, they just did the ICC B series? And, I can't find anything about it online?

Not sure what GA requires. Here it is in the Statues & Rules of the State. Maybe Builder Bob from our forum will see and answer.
