any old timer remember when backflow prevention devices became a requirement on sprinkler systems? 1970's WAG?

I remember them first becoming a common issue in the early 1980's.

My first run in with them was in early 80's also and personally, I don't like them. In areas where water pressure is tight and it comes down to the water authority rules requiring a RPZ or needing a fire pump...the politics get pretty heated...no pun intended.

don't be offended, My moustache is older than either one of yous guys. I looked at a system in original condition from the 60's yesterday and there was no bp device. it got me thinking of when the requirement was codified and is this a threat to the municipal water supply? I require all new systems to have bp devices but I have only been at this occupation for 20 years. thanks for the replies old men :mrgreen:

I first started to feel "seasoned" when I looked at existing sprinkler systems whose heads were over 50 years old and in need of replacing. I realized I was older than the heads. I don't want to be replaced just yet.

But does it more depend on who regulates the water versus the sprinkler system

In that could a sprinkler system without a backflow?

It has been my experience that many communities require backflows and some like mine take it further to require RPZ's where we have even had to go back in and politically request a single check so the business could stay open without too much hardship.

Ya'll have a great weekend, I'm going fly fishing for some big fat gills on the beds. This weather has screwed up all the fishing and maybe this talk of fishing will get Rjj back up here. Looks like the eastern side is getting some rough weather.
