If an "L" shaped building has a balcony terminating at the inside leg of the building portion that extends past the balcony edge at a right angle, then the balcony complies with 1021.4

If an "L" shaped building has a continuous uninterrupted balcony at the perimeter, then the balcony complies with 1021.4

Any comments are appreciated for this interpretation for portions of the building extending past balcony edge @ right angle.

1021.3 Openness.
The long side of an egress balcony shall be at least 50 percent open, and the open area above the guards
shall be so distributed as to minimize the accumulation of smoke or toxic gases.
1021.4 Location.
Exterior egress balconies shall have a minimum fire separation distance of 10 feet (3048 mm) measured at
right angles from the exterior edge of the egress balcony to the following:
1. Adjacent lot lines.
2. Other portions of the building.
3. Other buildings on the same lot unless the adjacent building exterior walls and openings are protected
in accordance with Section 705 based on fire separation distance.
For the purposes of this section, other portions of the building shall be treated as separate buildings.

Can you please provide a diagram? it is difficult to visualize what you're trying to describe.

Thanks for taking a look RLGA. The balconies are red in the diagram.

Maybe it was a problem locally to my computer, but now they're displaying properly.

Assuming the X'd areas are stairways, then the answer is yes.

Thanks RLGA. Understood the balconies complied, checking to see if there was a line of interpretation that at the 10' distance separation would be required left or right at angles < or > 90.

Yes the x's are stairs/exit...after I drew up the diagram...thought hey! need to show exits.
