I have a “B” occupancy (Vision Care Office) with a basement of 1100 square feet with only one means of egress and off the top of my head I think this is fine, the problem is somebody liked my copy of the 2003 IBC better than me and the IT department in there wisdom changed the server where my electronic copy of the 2003 IBC resides so I don’t have access to check this either, so if somebody could help me help I would appreciate it greatly.

Is the "B" occupancy "in" the basement? Or is it strictly a basement? If it is storage, sprinklers? Seperation? Egress direct to grade? Through upper level?

It will be challenging to meet the common path of travel requirements in a 1100 sq ft Basement ( 75 ft Max unsprinklered 100 ft Max sprinklered) As posted above more info is needed

One approach that has worked in a few cases is to use an "inverted mezzanine" concept. However, the first floor needs to be pretty open to be able to use that.
