Bathroom Count Small Coffee Shop

We are proposing a ~800 sf coffee shop (only 650 net sf). Per the code I come to the determination that the Occupancy is type B with 43 occupants (it would be A-2, but has <50 occupants). Therefore my interpretation is that I need 2 restrooms, 1 for each gender. I understand I can also satisfy this with 2 unisex/family ADA bathrooms.

My question is whether this is correct, or if there is an exception somewhere for small coffee shops? A lot of similar establishments I have visited only have 1 unisex restroom. Am i classifying the occupancy wrong, or am I missing something?

FYI the jurisdiction uses IBC 2012.

Only "if provided" , believe you only need to provide a RR for employees unless req'd by local health dept.

A lot of similar establishments I have visited only have 1 unisex restroom. Am i classifying the occupancy wrong, or am I missing something? There are 2 ways to look at this. The 1st is the way you did it which I believe is the correct and most common way. The other is how you apply Chapter 29 and Table 2902.1. Some people base the fixture count on what use you used to determine the OL which in this case is assembly and therefore they use assembly in Table 2902.1 to determine the fixture count which is 1 per 75 and therefore only one unisex restroom would be required.
