We're planning on investing in a beam analysis software program and so far have looked at Strucalc and Beamcheck. There is a large price difference between the two programs and I was wondering if anyone here has had experience with either or both of these programs and what their opinion of them is? Also if anyone knows of other good beam and structural analysis software maybe they could mention it.

Thanks in advance for any feedback,

Rio

I have used both quite a bit. I prefer strucalc - it seems to have more features, can handle more unique analysis. Once you learn to use either - they both can handle simple analysis and become a great tool for the office. Well worth the $$$

I have both, but use Strucalc the most, as it provides more options. I had used BeamChek for many years prior. Guess it depends on what you're doing. Strucalc gives you the ability to check footings as well.

Thanks to all for the information. We're doing 2nd story additions and plan on doing new housing as well as light commercial. I think we'll bite the bullet and go for the more expensive Strucalc.

I decided to buy the Stucalc and it turns out they're having a 40% off sale through tomorrow; just thought I'd pass along the information in case anyone else is thinking of buying it..................
