I agree with Jobsaver. It's been 25 years and I've looked forward to coming to work every day! how could a job be better than that?

Ditto here. I might whine but it sure beats anything else I have turned my hand at!

I have always worked in small rural areas, Inspector, Plans Examiner & Building Official. On a whole thay have all been great jobs. I don't think I would care to be in a larger area say over 50,000 population.

Love what I do and being a resource for the members of my community and our contractors when they need my input.

Wouldn't you guys feel better if you actually designed, engineered, or built the structures you are inspecting? There is no way I could be anybody's employee, much less a government employee.

We are all just cogs in the big wheel of life!!!!

We are all someone's employee!!!!!¡ ¡¡¡!

Conarb,

Designed, engineered, built and INSPECTED. Our part of the process is integral to the successful outcome of any project. The good designers and builders know this and value our input.

Most of us view our job as a kind of consultant. Also we maintain a level playing field to ensure the "bad" contractors don't undercut the ones who want to do a good job.

Honestly, I've designed houses, built buildings and worked on the engineering side of things and there is nothing I'd rather be doing.

Guess all the armed forces should be run by a private company------ they are government employees

Love my job to 98% of the time, and then you run in to the needy or opinionated people. I do miss on that nice spring or fall day sitting on the peak of the roof knowing I helped create the house below with my hands and knowledge. However don’t miss blowing on my hand in December showing off the snow jus to start work.

@ Jobsaver "Being a Building Inspector is the best job in the world. Just say'in."

You got that right! :) I do love being in the field most.

@ TheCommish: you are spot on also. 98% is not bad. And building back in the day, winter and summer was awesome.

I also agree on the job, and it really helps to have a great crew to work with.

Commish, I so agree! There is one day, spring and fall when I think, man it would be great to be out swinging the hammer! Then the next day comes and it goes away........ :devil

hey with some honey and a steady event enforcent, some explanations, 90% of the contracts cooperate, 5% dont have a clue the other 5% would argue that the $100.00 you might give them to go away was to much just beczuse they like to argue

Thanks for all the great encouragement. Conarb has a great point about designing, engineering, etc. I wish I could sing too. Anyway, to me, having the privilege of serving my community in this capacity is like winning the lottery . . . except that I'm still broke and have to go to work everyday, (saving weekends, leave, and holidays . . . all with pay).

I spend about half my leave time, weekends, and holidays plying my trade as a floor covering installer, so still enjoy swinging the hammer. I come back to work sore, respectful of the trades, and full of thanksgiving for having such an interesting life.

Glad to hear most of you out there experience the same fulfillment. Carry on.
