First post, hopefully this is the right spot for it. I'm 22 and work at a large production campus and have been given the unofficial task of being the site temporary structure auditor/inspector over the last year. With over 400 temp. structures here, I've had a lot of opportunities to collaborate with the site Fire Inspector and wanted to dive deeper into this career path.

Our site Inspector was a prior Fire Marshal with a Masters in Fire Safety (paraphrasing it was much more than that, just don't recall the wording), ICC Fire Inspector 2, Fire Plan Examiner, Sprinkler inspector, NFPA CFI-2, State specific certs, as well a number of other certifications we didn't discuss. His recommendation was to start with the ICC FI Certification as it was international and had less required books to purchase and a cheaper exam. (company won't reimburse or cover, so money is the issue at the moment).

So far I have the IFC 24' and IBC 24' on my list to purchase but depending on what page I'm looking at, it also lists the IFSTA-7th or 8th edition. Looking around the forums, some old posts stated not even having to open the IFSTA during the exam, while some suggested it was used frequently. Will I need all 3 books, or will that only apply to ICC FI-2 exams?

Long time since certifications, but I still refer to IFTSA for information. Largely similar material to the IFC/IBC but I still find it useful. Can't recall using it during exams, but I am the nerd who reads the books for my own personal edification. The most useful thing I do is compare the information and research where there are discrepancies. I always find the research provides the best education.
