building seperation requiements

existing building, owner wants to add 800 sq ft storage room to the building, all on same property

building is not sprinkled

we have a provision that fire walls do not negate sprinkler requirements,

so if new addtion is attached in any way to the existing building, entire existing building has to be sprinkled

or if they do a seperate building sprinkler issue goes away

new additon will only have one door into it

how much seperation is required??? and is there seperation required becuase of the door, or if you rate the opening/door does the distance diminish??

Depends upon construction type and occupancy per Table 602. Openings per Table 704.8.
