I have a commercial unit on the 3rd floor. Classified as Occupancy B (49 Occupancy). I need to add a 2nd exit. The only way to add the exit is to run stairs and catwalk over an existing addition off the back. My question is can this be made of wood if the addition is Type III construction? 20240629_145552.jpgScreenshot_20240627_112411_Gallery.jpg

I don't think the code addresses this situation directly. IBC 1027.5&6 require fire separation from the interior, so you will probably have to fire rate the roof/ceiling assembly and windows within 10 ft. of the catwalk and stair. The catwalk and stairs might also have to be fire-retardant treated wood.
