Were any of you in Rancho Cordova yesterday?, if you were, might you share your thoughts on the CASp exam, I felt there were a few questions with multiple right answers.

well, now I know why the pass rate for this exam is around 20%, scoping, scoping, scoping. good thing I will not find out my results for 4-6 weeks:), there were a 100 of us taking the exam and after the 2hour closed book part, they gave us an hour break, while standing outside and talking with the others it was amazing at all of the different answers for the same questions.

I'm pretty sure sharing test information is forbidden by law.

But congrats on paying for the:

$500 Eligibility Application (reduced to $100 for CA Licensed Architects, Landscape Architects, Civil Engrs, & Structural Engrs)

$800 Exam Fee, hope the government is paying that.

If you pass (good luck by the way), congrats on paying the:

$300 Certification Fee

+ continuing education courses and there must be a renewal fee too?

I guess it is not too bad, obviously I am just bummed the CASp idea go so expensive, or I would be interested in doing it.

The continuing education courses are probably worth every penny though.

Hey Fort, did not mean to touch a nerve, I also have my thoughts on fees for this exam, Just trying to be compliant with California Requirements.

Properly advertised, it will pay for itself in a very short time. This assumes that you are not in an area of the state with an over abundence of CASps. Cities are advertising for CASps as are others. You will also be listed on the state website.

I can't believe they gave you a break!

Are CASp certified inspectors doing inspections for businesses as a courtesy?

Since this provides certain reduction of exposure to litigation, this seems like a valuable service.

I was assuming Chad is an inspector or BO.

If so, do you provide CASp inspections as a free to the public?

Or is this just to assist you in your regular plan check / inspections.

I thought California had passed a low that building departments had to have a CASp on staff to assist residents? I assumed that the service would be free.

We have not passed a low...

The requirement is to have a CASp on staff or as a consultant. They are to do inspections and inspections not to help residents. That would be a bonus but not required. Inspections and plan check s are typically not free.
