Hey guys,

I'm looking into the code for a cat cafe, which is basically just a boba/coffee shop with cats running around. I'm looking to make sure we can use an under sink grease trap vs interceptor. Could someone point me to the code section in the IPC for this. No heavy greases of food preparation waste. Any other code issues with these Cat Cafes?

Thanks,

Typically the sewer authority decides that....Municipal sewer or septic?

I second what steveray said. In my experience, this is usually the responsibility of the Sanitary Sewer District (or your equivalent) to set any specific size requirements.

Any other issues specific to a cat café would be at a local level (health department, municipal code, etc.).

and the health department is okay with that.

A cat that jumps on the counter/table might use up all nine lives in a single day.

Cats keep themselves pretty clean — much cleaner than dogs. But they're still using those paws in the litterbox, and walking around on them too, which raises the potential that they're picking up dangerous germs and bacteria and tracking them across your kitchen counters.

There's one a couple hours away from me. There's a coffee shop area, and a kitty area isolated from food preparation areas.

The cats are all adoptable. If you want to cuddle a cat, you cough up a few bucks that in the end goes to cover the costs of care. It's a good thing.

sewer. Thanks I'll check with them. I'm trying to prepare in case they want an interceptor or large grease trap

Right health dept will probably require an isolated area for the cats. It's a good way to get people to get attached to one and take it home. it's a new concept so I've seen more cities zoning dept recognize them but not much official building or health code for them. Thanks guys.

If one came across my desk, I'd call it an assembly occupancy for the cafe. Easy peasy.
