So, well, I have inherited a large development project when I came on board here some months ago. It is a single site development with multiple buildings. The permit was issued as a single permit for all buildings. While one building is 98% completed as a shell and core, the other building shell and core will take another 3-6 months. But the tenant that will be occupying the first wants to take control ASAP to start the interior build out. So, since this entire project is a single permit I don't think I can issue a Temporary CO as the list of items left for the entire development would be pretty extensive. Is there a Partial CO that could be issued? Or even actually a Partial Temporary CO since there will be items such as landscaping and a few site improvements which won't happen until early next spring?

Ideas?
 
Having multiple buildings on one permit is always troublesome. Clients tend to push for this at the permitting stage as it is cheaper and faster, but it can cause complications later on.
You should be able to create multiple final inspections, and temporary occupancy, with each tied to a unique address, since each building should have its own address. You might have to make it up a little as you go along.
 
I my office each building or structure requires a separate permit and CO, becaus one building or structure is always completed before the other
 
What the Commish says...but they come to me almost every day. Got one today with 6 T/I's all requiring Cof O's on one permit today. They shouldn't get to me, they should be intercepted at the permit counter, but I'll leave that gripe for another day.

When I have had to deal with this type of thing after the fact, we required new permits for each building they want to C of O, and revising of the original to break them out. It is a PITA, but I think works well. Like Plumb-bob says, it really isn't a service in the long run to do it all on one permit.
 
You could issue CO's for each build by address and not close the permit out until all are done. In the future you can change to a single permit for each bldg. Or as they mentioned earlier break it up now with new permit numbers with just finals and note the previous inspections on the first permit. As said PITA anyway you do it.
 
I have issued a TCO, with a signed agreement on conditions, and hold the Final C.O. hostage, with the threat of revoking the initial TCO hanging overhead.
 
Seems that if you had a very large structure with one or more fire WALLS vs a Campus of several structures separated by an open area and not a firewall, from our POV it is really the same thing, isn't it?
Seems like evaluating the campus project will be a more efficient way to evaluate the building separation distances as well, so there won't be any mis-steps.

So at eh end of the day, One Permit with temp CO's for the completed areas (and uses) in the context of the common areas also being completed for a safe situation, seems better for all of us
