Check the vents

I was there to inspect a re-roof final. The lady asked me to look at the water heater. The vent has dropped 6" to 8". She says that the contractor told her that it's no big deal and it happens all the time. I'll need a little more convincing. Several years ago, there was a re-roof where the vent was separated in the attic. The owner found it when he went in the attic to check his rat traps. He was really angry with me.

What an awful color.

Here is an example of how not to do it. Well then aren't all of my pictures an example of what not to do. I almost never find the vent with the proper support. The contractors complain that they shouldn't have to secure the vent just because a roofer might push it down.
