Chief Architect Software

Does anyone have any experience with Chief Architect, the software, and how good it is for submitting permit sets of drawings?

I bought it several years ago and I've never even installed it. I can report that I bought it on the recommendation of a fellow building official, who used to be a builder. Chief Architect is what he used, and he sang its praises.

An architect I worked for back in 1992 was a beta tester for it, and (although it was VERY limited, and only to residential and a plan view) it was pretty impressive. Looking at the current version it has come a long way! But at $2,000/year to subscribe to it, it seems pretty pricey.

$2,000 a year?

I don't subscribe -- I bought it, and it wasn't anything like $2,000. Either their prices have skyrocketed, or I'm misremembering and what I have isn't Chief Architect.

... And that's the problem. I DIDN'T get Chief Architect -- I got Turbo Floor Plan Deluxe, a product from TurboCAD. My apologies for spreading misinformation.

I use Chief Architect daily for my drafting and design business.
I have been using it for about 15 years now, and I will use it for the foreseeable future.

I have plenty of example layouts and plans that I can show you if you want to see any.

And yes, it is great for submitting permit sets of drawings.

I have done literally 500 or more permit sets from small bath remodels to ground-up builds.

I am an Architect and have been successfully using Chief Architect for over 14 years. I do all my work in the software including schematic design and final construction drawings for permitting and bidding. It is a very capable program for Design and documentation.
