CO cord from a ceiling grid junction box down to a store gondola (portable shelving in the open floor area) with a junction box. MC used from that junction box through the gondola to the end cap with LED lighted display. Length of cord exceeds 6-ft.

Would this be copacetic? If not they would have to cut the floor or provide other ways to get power to the lighted end cap.

Looking at NEC 400.7 and 400.8, not sure you can classify this as wiring luminaries or not?
 
Yes, why didn't the Professional Engineer spec a manufactured power pole.

$$$$$ I suspect.
 
So they would rather waste time and design fees trying to come up with an acceptable alternate. Typical.
