Good afternoon. I found this website today and i am hoping that i can find my answer through you guys. In advance its greatly Appreciated.

The building size is 10800 SQF and it was a mercantile for 20 years. However we took over and there is a change of use to a poker club. They are labeling us A-2 however its not exactly that. We also have retail within the facility, pool tables, playstations. Also our total amount of tables is 20 of which only 180 can play.

Now i am trying to get into an A3 or other category so i do not have to put the sprinklers. There os not even a 6 inch access as this building is old, however it wont be grandfathered because of change of use.

Based on the above, what category should we be labeled as? We will not serve alcohol.

Lastly we didnt change anything as it was perfect the way it is.

Any insight would be great. However its over 90k for fire sprinklers and landlord doesnt want to share the cost.

Thank you

Also , i have to keep occupancy load to less than 300.

I do want to mention that total game space is 8000 feet. The rest is back office not in use.

Under A-2, Casinos (gaming areas) are specifically identified. Gaming areas are defined as follows:

[BE] GAMING AREA. Single or multiple areas of a building or facility where gaming machines or tables are present and gaming occurs, including but not limited to, primary casino gaming areas, VIP gaming areas, high-roller gaming areas, bar tops, lobbies, dedicated rooms or spaces such as in retail or restaurant establishments, sports books and tournament areas.

You are an A-2 use.

BTW... here is the IEBC reference that will push you into adding the fire sprinklers.

1011.2.1 Fire Sprinkler System
Where a change in occupancy classification occurs or where there is a change of occupancy within a space where there is a different fire protection system threshold requirement in Chapter 9 of the International Building Code that requires an automatic fire sprinkler system to be provided based on the new occupancy in accordance with Chapter 9 of the International Building Code, such system shall be provided throughout the area where the change of occupancy occurs.
