I have a request from an owner of a restaurant not to install a type II hood over an above counter dishwasher. Their arguement is that this dishwasher uses chemical treatment and water not exceeding 120 degrees so it doesn't produce steam and the heat is not suffient to disturb the mechanical system of the building. How do the rest of you view this? Has anyone on the code development committee's discussed this issue? Thanks.

Re: Commercial dishwasher

2006 and earlier I-codes leave no exception for it, so I've been requiring them. However, 2009 IMC will allow it by increasing the space ventilation requirement and accounting for the additional heat and moisture load through the building's HVAC system.

Re: Commercial dishwasher

klarenbeek, can you post that code section, I'm having the same issue in my jurisdiction, and if it's upcoming in the code I may just let them adjust their economizer to account for it.

Re: Commercial dishwasher

section 507.2.2 of the 2009 IMC. We're not officially under it until june, but have approved a couple of projects in the planning phase with this section.
