I have a "new" convenience store & gas station ( Type III-B ) being built and

they have a retaining wall indicated on the project plans. This proposed

"new" retaing wall varies in height; at various points along its length, up to

9+ ft. They want to use landscaping timbers ( crossties ?? ).

In Section 1806 of the `06 IBC, it says that " retaining walls shall be designed,

blah, blah, blah... "

QUESTION: What standards apply for designing a retaining wall with

landscaping timbers? or because of the height variations, would a stone, or

something more substantial type material be required? Your input is greatly

appreciated!

Thanks ya'll! :)

As long as it is engineered then I would say a okay! Crossties have been used a very long time and if designed correctly will be there for a long time.
