I have a "new" restaurant with a gas water heater planned to be installed.
The plans indicate that the T & P drain line and the drain pan drain line will
be directed / aimed to a floor drain nearby.
QUESTION # 1: Do these two separate drain lines have to / need to be installed
so that the drainage piping "point-of-disposal" is in a recessed drainage fixture
( i.e. - a floor sink type fixture, or similar. What about a traditional, bronze
strainer cap type with openings cut in to it to receive the drainage piping? )
QUESTION # 2A: Suppose there are no plans to install horizontal drain lines,
directed to the floor drain, and the plans indicate that the two separate
drainage pipes will drain on to the floor, ..and then the slope of the floor and
gravity will direct any discharges to the floor drain. Is there a maximum
distance away from this appliance that the floor drain / "drainage receptor"
can be located?
QUESTION # 2B: Is this going to be covered by the manufacturer's
installation instructions, or by the IPC?
We are under the 2006 I-Codes. As always, please cite the applicable
code sections.
Thanks ya'll !!
