Just wondering how others are handling the need to build a rated wall against existing construction (cant reach the other side).
For example we are demolishing a 10,000 SF business occupancy and converting it to a new I-2 occupancy. The existing business occupancy has a 1-HR. rated wall around it that exists and will stay to not damage the corridor side finishes. We need the NEW wall surrounding our 10,000 SF space to be 2-HR. We want to avoid going to the other side of the existing 1HR. wall (corridors) because we don't want to damage the wall covering or finishes in the existing corridors. Plus there are all kinds of infection control measures that must be followed and its better to stay on our side of the wall.
Is the best way to create a 2 HR. rated partition to use a shaft wall with the required fire rating so you can do all the work from one side?
Wanted to see what others thought.
Thanks!
