Definition of showerhead in regards to bathroom height

Yours would comply as long as all of the required
30" x 30" shower area is located within the 8 ft.
height area and provides the 6'-8" minimum height
at the shower head.

This post says all the 30" in front of showhead must be 80" though not sure if it's their interpretation or something written I have not seen

 
Ah found it - section P2708.
The minimum required area and dimension shall be measured from the finished interior dimension at a height equal to the top of the threshold and at a point tangent to its centerline and shall be continued to a height of not less than 70 inches above the shower drain outlet.
