Mr. Inspector
SAWHORSE
2009 IBC. PA is very strict with accessibility.
Have a large S building. They put signs with raised arrows, raised letters (that say accessible exit) and the accessible symbol indicating a complicated path from the non-accessible exits to the accessible exits. The problem is that section 1007.10 #1 says the directional signage needs to be "At exits serving a required accessible space but not providing an approved accessible means of egress".
1. Does the above mean that the directional sign(s) with arrows have to be right at the non accessible exit and cannot be away from this exit? The first directional sign with a arrow is right at the non accessible exit but the 2nd, 3rd, etc. signs with arrows are as much as 100' away from the non accessible exit.
2. Next for some reason they got these directional signs with raised letters on them and some of the signs are inside I beam columns that only are 12" inside and ICC/ANSI A117.1-2003 requires a 18" floor area. Should I have them replace the arrow signs with raised lettering with signs without raised letters or move the signs out of inside the I beam. Or doesn't it matter since the directional signs are not required to have raised lettering?
