2006 IBC requires a thumb lock to be distinguishable as "locked". What type of locks are available to meet this requirement. This is at a car dealership and it appears that all the doors can have this feature, owner just does not understand what "distinguishable" means. Any photo examples appreciated.

I think this requirement is in the exception for doors with locks that are keyed both sides. If the lock has a thumbturn on the inside (you said "thumb lock"), I don't know of a requirement in the IBC for the lock to be distinguishable as locked. If there is one, would you give me the paragraph reference?

06 wording

2. In buildings in occupancy Group A having an occupant load of 300 or less, Groups B, F, M and S, and in places of religious worship, the main exterior door or doors are permitted to be equipped with key-operated locking devices from the egress side provided:

2.1. The locking device is readily distinguishable as locked,

2.2. A readily visible durable sign is posted on the egress side on or adjacent to the door stating: THIS DOOR TO REMAIN UNLOCKED WHEN BUILDING IS OCCUPIED. The sign shall be in letters 1 inch (25 mm) high on a contrasting background,

2.3. The use of the key-operated locking device is revokable by the building official for due cause.

Yes, that's the section that addresses a key-operated locking device - keyed from the egress side. IMO this doesn't apply to a deadlock operated by a thumbturn on the egress side. I'm not entirely sure which one the OP has.

And this is were I ask how is that thumb turn working for accessibility?

I have come across one where I could operate it with my elbow, I passed it.

Do not believe thumb latch is in the code

It is one of those things you mention in a room of code people, if you do not want a riot
