Does IBC/CBC 1029.2 or 3 require an "exit" from space? Or is exit access sufficient?

Yikes

Given an assembly (church sanctuary) with an occupant load greater than 300, is there anything in the wording of either 1029 or 1029.1 that requires any of the doors to be an exit door, i.e. leading directly outdoors? Or can 100% of the doors from the sanctuary lead to an exit access component, such as a lobby or a corridor that eventually leads to an exterior exit door?

Section 1029 is for Egress Courts... so struggling to follow the initial question.

Are you asking if an assembly area with an OL>300 is required to have a direct exit (an exit doorway) with no access component? If so, then no - an direct exit from the area is not required so long as the egress route complies with sizing, travel distance, etc.

Thanks!

What I also find odd is that the moment the main egress path goes out a 6’ wide pair of exit doors, the width jumps up to 20’ minimum. I don’t understand why.

Where are you getting that from?
