IMO, this becomes part of the exhaust duct system and therefore doues not meet the limitations for the transition duct allowed to bve flexible. I think this should be rigid pipe and I would also look at the way the connection are made. Will it restrict air-flow and collect lint? Section M1501.1, 2003 Edition.

Also, Section R309.1.1: - Duct Penetration:"Ducts in the garage and

ducts penetrating the walls or ceilings separating the dwelling from the garage

shall be constructed of a minimum No. 26 gage (0.48 mm) sheet steel or

other approved material and shall have no openings into the garage."

IMC 504.2 Duct is penetrating the garage seperation wall.

IRC M1502.2 needs to be min 3ft from the door opening.

R309 requires 26ga metal

There is no requirment in the IRC for a 1-hr garage seperation. Has your jurisdiction specifically adopted and amened the IBC/IMC to apply to single family residential?

No, we have not amended our adopted code. 1/2" gyp would be required on garage wall side.

1-HR removed from post.
 
I thought that flex could only be used for the initial non concealed connection at the dryer. Am I crazy? I will have to read the dryer vent section again. I agree with the 26 gauge steel for garage duct penetrations and would also require that the penetration be sealed.
 
Well, Daddy-O.. this is not concealed... other than the howdy-do into the garage, that needs to be sealed, I don't have a particular issue with it. G2439.2 .. I don't know that M1502.6 specifically prohibits it.. (it should)
