Egress from exterior Patio

Hello,
I am hoping to get some clarity on egress requirements from an exterior dining patio at a restaurant space. The exiting patio is 75' long x 20' and is constrained on 3 sides by existing building walls with the 4th side being open to a public way. The client would like to seat the entire area for dining. This would create an occupant load well in excess of 50 occupants and require 2 exits from the patio. Based on the configuration of the patio it is not possible to get exit separation between the two exits. Is it possible to utilize CBC 1004.7 - Outdoor Areas which seems to state that the path of egress from the patio can be through the interior of the building provided that the occupant load of the patio is included in the egress width calculation for the building. I have always been under the belief that it was not acceptable to re-enter a building for egress.

What is the OL of the building? If in excess of 50, door swings would be problematic.

Unless there are two other exits with correct door swings of course.

Yes you can reenter the building

Problem solved

If needed add two doors, double swing

Yup! you are correct. I didn't consider this. Occupant load of the building is high and would require swing in the direction of travel.

Another route is oversize the exit off the patio

And see if the ahj will accept that.

Were you planning on having a gate, door or similar, to exit the patio???

What occupant load are you looking at, if maxed out?

Hi CDA,
If maximized the occupant load of the patio would be 100. We would have a gate to separate the patio from the public way. Perhaps oversizing would be an option. However, our egress width from the patio is already required to be 56" as the interior of the building exits through the patio as well. I've been looking at the possibility of a double acting door but see some issues. The occupant load of the building is 457. The only door from the restaurant to the patio is one of the required egress doors for the building. My understanding is that as the door at the building is a required egress from the building it would not be able to be dual acting but would need to be an S-door configuration. We could perhaps add an additional single door from the patio back into the building. I am attaching the egress diagram for the building/patio for reference.

Sorry meant two doors

Side by side

One swings one way one the other

Thanks,
Yes, that seems to be the only option I can see to allow the patio to exit back through the building.
Appreciate your help!

Add a new door to the building that is not required for egress and it can swing in...The panic bar that is required will be a problem for security though....
