Architect is proposing egress from a storage room with occupant load of 3 to pass through an accessible restroom, then through an office, through the main F-1 area, and finally out an exit.
They are proposing there will not be a lock between the restroom and storage room, so no occupant will ever be on the wrong side of a locked door.
Is this code compliant? Is there something in the code that requires a lock on the bathroom door? Then would invoke CA Building Code Section 1016.2 #3 which prevents egress through a room that can be locked to prevent egress. Or does 1016.2 #2 prevent this path of egress? Or 1016.2 #5 which prevents egress through kitchens “and similar uses”?
