Egress through Sprinkler Room?

Existing F-2 & S-2 occupancy. New addition to house sprinkler service and risers.
2018 and 2021 Virginia Building Code (An S-2 addition was permitted under the 2018 code and is under construction. I do not know which code the sprinkler addition must follow.)

The GC and / or owner want to utilize an existing exit door in the F-2 & S-2 occupancy to access the new sprinkler room, place an exit door in the sprinkler room exterior wall, and then have F-2 & S-2 occupants travel through the sprinkler room to egress the building. Is this allowable or does Section 1016.2 item 5 prohibit this arrangement?

1016.2 Egress through intervening spaces, item 5: "Egress shall not pass through kitchens, storage rooms, closets or spaces used for similar purposes."

I know of no requirements to have sprinkler controls in a room, remove the room, supervise the valves, keep clear space around the riser. Possible solution to,the problem. Fire pumps do require rooms that have ratings.
 
It appears there is some hindsight on the 27,000 sf S-2 addition currently under construction. A pump room was never part of the original scope of work. I assume the existing sprinkler setup was in the way of work flows, no longer close enough to an exterior wall, or they decided to move everything into this room with the pump.

Thank you for the info about fire pumps needing a rated room. I do not normally deal with buildings needing a fire pump and I would have missed that.

And that is what this place is all about....And the feeders for the firepump if it is electric have some quirky stuff too...
