Electrical crossing property line not per building plans

Here is the story... Building constructed, they have no power... running on a generator... But they do need a dedicated line for the fire alarm. They ran a line across property lines to connect to another building. I am unable to locate a specific code that you cannot run electrical across property lines (different property owners) without a permit.

Town will not enforce as I have to provide an exact code for crossing property lines. They say if someone wants to run electrical across property they can do this.

This was not per the plans and they did not pull a permit for the new connection nor has it been inspected.
 
So is the generator running one or two buildings?

Are both buildings owned by the same person?
 
It is not a building code issue - it is trespassing (a civil matter).

Power can and often may run across someone else's property. This is typically accomplished via an easement upon the encroached property. Have you checked with the City to see if an easement exists?
 
I'm assuming like CDA said this is a temporary set up. If that's the case I deftly don't see anything wrong with what they are doing assuming the owner of the other property doesn't have a problem with it. How long are they planning on running on the generator?

they have been running the generator for over 7 months and operating out of the building on the generator.
They built the building and do not have permanent power hence the reason for the generator, ran a new line across property lines to connect for the fire alarm but did not submit for new permit or workaround for new power connection.

Generator running over 7 months.

There is no easement.
 
Something must be missing

Not to many cities allow a building to run off a generator of that long


So what type of business?? factory,office, cell phone switch station,?????
 
Call the state fire marshal and see if they will come to town to look at it

Being Calif not sure who handles pollution, but call them also,

And my favorite,,, the media always is looking for a story, especially when a government agency is involved.
 
Again, contact the police, this is trespassing. Have the police notify the owner that it is on your property without consent. If not removed, you can have the line/cord/wires/etc. cut and removed.

So there is a WHOLE lot more to my story that starts out with a building being constructed on property that was leased by___ which in turn constructed a building with out the owners permission (ME). On applications they used their parcel APN (next to ours), said they were the owner of the property on application, we did not find out till after it was constructed and they continue to operate out of this building without a certificate of occupancy, running on generator for over 7 months and being issued violations from town... It would take me hours to fill in everything in between... Thanks to everyone for their input... But to say the least most of the ideas posted have been done. Lets just say David versus Goliath.

Have a real estate attorney look at the terms of the lease

Depending on how through it is, same lawyer might be able to issue a vacate notice.


How long is the lease?????
